Welcome to the most #SparksProud website in town!
I’m your current Ward 1 Sparks City Council Member: Donald Abbott
I was elected to my first term serving the City and residents of Ward 1 in November of 2016. I’m the first millennial and youngest person ever to serve on the Sparks City Council.
I am born and raised in Sparks, graduated with honors from Sparks High School in 2008 and went on to Truckee Meadows Community College where I earned dual degrees in renewable energy and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). I began my career working for a local HVAC company while still in high school. After graduating I taught HVAC classes at Truckee Meadows Community College. I own and operate my own photography company, AbbottOgraphy which I’ve had open since 2016. I was also a substitute teacher for the Washoe County School District which presented ample opportunities for myself to teach at my alma mater, Sparks High School.
An avid history lover, I’m proud to serve as a Sparks Heritage Museum board member. Volunteering is important to me and I am also an active community volunteer with 39 North and previously served on the Sparks Citizens Advisory Committee. I’m also very passionate about Senior Citizen topics and advocated to get the newly-formed Sparks Senior Citizens Advisory Committee up and running.
